Best of Multicultural Motherhood Blog 2018

What a year 2018 has been! As well as being an active blogger and Instagrammer, this year saw me concentrate properly on my YouTube channel. Over there you will find a mixture of videos covering topics such as motherhood, homeschooling ideas and my life as a Muslim convert.

To celebrate the end of a fabulous year, I would like to share my top five posts of 2018 with you. Here they are.

1) Which language should I speak to my child?

When you are part of a multicultural and multilingual family, it can be hard to choose which language to speak to your child. Do you choose the one which is your first language or the one which is most useful in the place where you live? Do you choose the minority language or the majority language? Do you teach them one language or two or perhaps even three? In this article, I use my expertise as a speech and language therapist, specialising in bilingualism, to help you make this choice.

2) 8 reasons to use Exploring Nature With Children in your homeschool

If you have been following my blog and Instagram account for some time, you will know that I am passionate about outdoor play and learning. You will also know that we follow a fabulous nature curriculum called 'Exploring Nature With Children' in our homeschool. I absolutely love this curriculum for it's ease of use and comprehensiveness, as well as for the way it has completely changed our lives. It has taught us to slow down and observe the world around us and to get in touch with the natural world. In this blog post I shared eight reasons why I believe you should be using 'Exploring Nature With Children' in your homeschool. If you haven't heard of it yet, please do go and check it out. You won't regret it!

3) Language mixing in young bilinguals - why they do it and what it means

Parents of multilingual children often worry when their children start to mix up the languages they are learning to speak. They think they must be confused and wonder if bringing their children up as multilingual is the wrong thing to do. I can assure you that there is no need to panic when you hear your young children mixing languages. In fact, it is a totally normal phenomenon that is part of the typical bilingual language acquisition process. In this article I tell you more about bilingual language acquisition, why children mix languages and what this actually means about their speech and language skills.

4) How to establish a homeschool routine + FREE printables!

This is an article that is really close to my heart. I open up about the truth about establishing a homeschool routine. I am honest about the length of time it took our family to get into a good routine that worked for us. I share some tips to help you establish a routine that is right for your family. On top of this, I share some helpful printables that will enable you to establish your own homeschool routine for FREE!

5) How to homeschool during Ramadan

Ramadan can be a difficult time in many ways but when you are a homeschooling mum, it adds another dimension to it! While we may be extra tired and lack energy to do as much as we want to, we can also take the opportunity to focus our learning on Islam. This can be a real blessing and allow us to make the most of this blessed month. Read this blog post for more ideas on how to homeschool during Ramadan, it may seem a while off yet but it will come around before you know it!

So there you have it, my top five posts of 2018. I know I haven't blogged much in the last few months as I was focusing on my YouTube channel, but I am aiming to start blogging regularly again this year! I guess I missed it and didn't realise how much I enjoy creating content, writing and helping people. I hope you come along with me for the next part of my journey!
