Reading Challenge

I recently wrote about my new year's resolutions and if you read about them or watched my video, you will know that my first one is to read more. I have a terrible habit of buying books and not reading them. Perhaps worse, is my habit of reading the first few chapters and then neglecting the book altogether! I am a huge book lover with a thirst for knowledge so when I spot an interesting book I just have to have it! However, my pile of unread books is growing ever larger and I have to do something about it.

4 books in 4 weeks

Therefore, I have decided to set myself a reading challenge for this month in the hope that, by the end of it, I will have created a new habit of reading and finishing books that will continue for the rest of the year and beyond. I am challenging myself to read one book per week for the next four weeks.

Start by reading unfinished books

I know I will find this challenging so I will give myself a head start by finishing a book I started last month. If you, like me, have some unfinished books, I would encourage you to do the same. I would love to finish all those books I have started and I will aim to do this before purchasing any new ones.

Reach for the book instead of the screen

This is going to be a big one for me. I spend far too long scrolling through social media during the evening or while I breastfeed my daughter. No more! This month I will need to be reaching for my book during those times as well as other periods when I am waiting around. If I am going to complete this challenge I need to read at every opportunity so the phone will be going away. For more ideas on how to read more, check out this blog post.

Choose books from different categories

I have so many different kinds of books I enjoy and my reading list is full of titles from various genres. I would like to make the most of this opportunity by choosing books of different genres to read each week. The first book I have chosen to read is about parenting. I would like other genres to include homeschooling, fiction and possibly self-development. Think about the kinds of books you have in your reading pile. Can you pick four different genres from these? It is good to have a variety as it can help to keep it interesting.

So, who's with me? Who will join me on this challenge and get reading more this year? Check out my Instagram account to follow my journey to reading more. Please share your current reads with me and let me know how you are getting on. I will be using the hashtag #4weeks4books . Don't forget to tag me in your posts!
