Raising Talkers: How to Help Your Child to Talk - Online Course

Did you know that a child's vocabulary at age five is the strongest predictor of future academic success? Or that late talkers never really catch up completely with their peers? Early language skills are so important. They affect a child's ability to think, learn and be. Early language skills affect literacy ability and later academic achievements as well as a child's future prospects. The quality and quantity of language a child hears in their environment is the strongest predictor of their communication skills. Parents and carers have a huge impact on their child's ability to acquire language so it is important that they know the best way to achieve this.

As a Speech and Language Therapist, I am constantly asked for tips to help children to talk. I do not think parents currently get enough support in understanding the best ways to interact with their children. The preventative work we speech and language therapists used to do is no longer available and this is having an impact on the amount of children that develop speech and language difficulties.

I strongly believe that parents should be equipped with the knowledge to help their child to talk. This is why I have created this course. It is my aim to empower parents with the knowledge and confidence they need to give their children the best start in their journey towards successful communication skills because this will positively impact them for the rest of their lives!

The course opens for registration on Wednesday 15th and begins on Monday 20th November.

The course costs £129 for LIFETIME ACCESS!

50% goes to a charity that is supporting the Palestinians.

The course  will run for 4 weeks. You will be able to access the course materials at any time to complete them in your own pace.

There will be live Q and As each week with a specialist speech and language Therapist to answer any questions you may have.

Course content

The course is designed to be worked through over 4 weeks so there are 4 modules and you should work through one module per week. However, you will be able to work through the course in your own time and at your own pace so you can work through it quicker or slower if you prefer.

Each week there are videos informing you about the weekly topic and a workbook for you to go through. As well as informing about each topic, the workbooks will help you to reflect on your child's progress and give you the knowledge you need to help you child acquire the necessary skills they need to communicate successfully.

The course will cover the following topics:

Week 1  - Typical speech and language development

This week covers typical (normal) speech and language development from birth to five years, for both monolingual and bilingual children, in detail. Discover where your child's speech and language development is at using my useful guides. I will also give you some important strategies that you can begin to use, to enable you to start interacting with your child in the best way possible.

Week 2 - Atypical speech and language development

We will look at some of the difficulties children may have with their speech and language development. We will discuss certain difficulties, such as, speech sound difficulties (e.g. a lisp or saying 't' instead of 'k'), early language delay, autism and stuttering. Some are caused by genetics but others are not and so we will look at the reasons these difficulties may occur. We will also discuss the warning signs to look out for if you think there may be a problem.

Week 3 - Tips, advice, strategies and resources

I will give you my top tips for successful communication. We will discuss the ways you can communicate with your child in order to help them develop their speech and language skills. I will guide you through these strategies, helping you to learn the best ways to interact with your child and put these tips into practice.

Week 4 - More top tips and guidance on putting the strategies into practice

This week I will be giving you more tips, advice and resources to empower you with the knowledge and know how to help your child to talk. You will be able to check in with me to discuss the progress of both you and your child and ask me any questions you may have about your child's speech and language development.

By the end of this course you will know the best ways to help your child to talk.

Who is the course for?

This course is for parents of babies and young children (age 0-3), as well as those who are expecting a baby soon. It is also suitable for parents of 3-5 year olds who have an early language delay and would like to get some knowledge and advice on how to help their children through these difficulties. It is for parents who are interested to learn about their children's speech and language development and get a sense of the normal milestones their children will reach at each stage in their development. Above all, it is for parents who would like to learn the best ways to interact with their children in order to help them develop speech and language.

Who am I?

My name is Weronika and I am a Speech and Language Therapist living in the south west of England. I am also a homeschool mum to four children aged 9, 6, 3 and 1. Since qualifying as a speech and language therapist, I have undertaken post-graduate research at the University of Reading on the topic of bilingual children with autism. This enabled me to gain a specialism in bilingualism and autism.

I believe that parents can take their child's speech and language needs into their own hands, given the right training. Therefore, my aim is to empower parents with the knowledge to be able to help their child themselves. Communication is the basis of everything and a child's early language skills will affect them for the rest of their life. By boosting their communication skills, you will boost their ability to learn and enhance their life chances. I believe every child deserves the chance to thrive and my courses will enable you to give your child the best start in life.

Case study - the difference parents can make

My eldest child was born when I was in my second year of university. I was right at the beginning of my speech and language therapy training so I had some knowledge but I did not yet know the best ways to interact with my child. At the age of 18 months, my daughter could only say about six words. Fast forward to today and things could not be more different. My youngest is now 18 months and has a vocabulary of around 50 words and she also puts 2-3 words together saying phrases such as, 'open the door' and 'shoes on'. In fact,my three children who were born after I finished my training have all had advanced communication skills for their age and often get complimented on this. So, what was the difference? The difference was me! The way a parent interacts with their child is the strongest predictor of their language skills. Any parent can learn the best ways to interact with their child to help them develop their speech and language skills. I will tell you the secrets of raising a happy talker!

Feedback for Multicultural Motherhood courses

"What an impressive course! My almost 3 year old and I have been working very hard for the last few weeks, since completing the Raising Talkers course...At the beginning of this course he could only say (mostly repeating) a few words. Now just a few weeks later, his word count has rocketed and he said his first 2 sentences. I'm feeling emotional to say the least, hard work really does pay off. What an outstanding course this is! Thank you so much for putting this course together, your wealth of knowledge is superb. I will recommend this course in the future. Fabulous!" - Emma

"The course was life changing! Wish I came across your page earlier and had taken the course when my son was born." - Umm Luqman

"I feel even my parenting method has changed Alhamdulillah my son has really progressed a lot. It's really hard to balance between uni, being a mum and wife but the course has really helped me in teaching and understanding my son's needs. P.S. I made my husband read the workbooks also, he really enjoyed them!" - Shafiqa

"I wish that I had a class like this available before my kids were born or still young." - Adrienne

"I was jumping in joy when I got these modules because I have got a guideline to understand in which stage of life we are and how to carry over with the process to make her a better talker." - Salma

"If you're a worrier like me and aren't sure what's "normal" speech for your toddler, I'd highly recommend this course. Not only did I learn what is average development in terms of language and talking, but I feel much more secure in how I'm teaching my daughter and the skills I need to be able to help her learn new words and language. Excellent course and very helpful worksheets to guide you through." - Tia

"I really enjoyed this course! It was very easy to follow and I looked forward to the live Q and A each week even if I didn't have any questions. The course provided me with more language learning tips and confidence in myself when "teaching" my kids." - Adrienne
