I didn't grow up an observer of nature, although I knew I loved it. Being stuck in a classroom five days a week didn't leave much time for outdoor adventures. However, we did have a large garden with plenty of space to play and we were taken to parks or on outdoor trips often. As time goes on, the more I am captivated by the natural world. The shape of a seed head on an autumn's day and the beauty of a snowflake so intricate and unique in it's design. Anything and everything enchants me and I would love to pass this on to my children.

Never be within doors when you can rightly be without
Now that I am a mother with four young children, I want to instil a love of the great outdoors in my children. I want to give them the opportunities to learn about and within the natural world around them. I want them to experience the freedom to explore and discover what woods, fields, mountains and beaches have to offer. I want to bring up children who care deeply about the environment and do what they can to protect it.
As a homeschool family, I take great inspiration from the great educators of the past, such as Charlotte Mason and Maria Montessori, who placed great emphasis on outdoor learning and observation. Charlotte Mason famously prescribed 4-6 hours of daily outdoor time for children and while this is perhaps an unrealistic ideal, it is a great reminder of the importance of outdoor play and education.
"Every child has a natural interest in the living things about him which is the job of his parents to encourage" - Charlotte Mason
"Once get in touch with nature and a habit will be formed which will be a source of delight through life." - Charlotte Mason
"We are all meant to be naturalists, each in his own degree, and it in inexcusable to live in a world so full of marvels of plant and animal life and to care for none of these things." - Charlotte Mason
"The sense of beauty comes from early contact with nature." - Charlotte Mason
"When children come into contact with nature, they reveal their strength." - Maria Montessori
"The land is where are roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth." - Maria Montessori
"There is no description, no image in any book capable of replacing the sight of real trees, and all the life to be found around them." - Maria Montessori
"A child, more than anyone else, is a spontaneous observer of nature." - Maria Montessori
Reconnect, rediscover, rewild
I am passionate about reconnecting with nature and giving my children the best childhood possible and I believe being in touch with the great outdoors is essential for this. I would like to help and inspire others to do the same which is why I have created a nature course; A Childhood Wild. The course aim to inspire and motivate others to get outdoors, to inform parents of the wonders of the natural world and the vast benefits of getting out in the wild as often as possible. To reconnect with nature in a time when so many seem to have forgotten it. To rediscover the ways of old whether it be foraging for local food or predicting the weather using natural signs. To rewild our children enabling them to have the most beautiful childhood full of the pleasures of paddling in streams and climbing trees. What you will get in A CHILDHOOD WILD
