Creating a Phenology Wheel

A phenology wheel is a lovely way to record your nature observations each month. It is a perfect, visual memoir to look back on the seasonal changes that occured in your local area over the last year and a wonderful activity to add to your nature study.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a phenology is, 'The study of cyclic and seasonal natural phenomena, especially in relation to climate and plant and animal life.' So, your phenology wheel will contain images that relate to cyclic and seasonal changes you observe. You might record plants, animals or other natural things you have come across, as well as other significant days throughout the year such as a religious festival or a special day.

This year we are creating our very first phenology wheels and I am so excited to see how they progress. I am really looking forward to completing them and having something to look back on at the end of the year. I hope it will turn into an annual tradition.

These are the start of our phenology wheels and you can follow our progress on my Instagram account.
